While you can’t ride this one on the street most places, we’ve got a serious soft spot for the smell (and power) of a classic Yamaha 2-stroke thumper.
Up for sale here is a 1982 Yamaha IT465 enduro. Seller claims to be a Yamaha collector and only the second owner of this bike. Seller claims this example is very low-hours.
Earlier models of this Yamaha were loved and reviled by the 2-stroke thumper community, as they performed well but had a tendency to detonate. Forum folks seem agreed that by ‘82 rolled around, Yamaha (and others) had ironed most of the kinks out and had left these ITs more reliable and quite fast.
The single-cylinder 465cc engine put out 35hp when new, and while some examples came with turn signals meant to make it street-rideable, this model does not. Seller claims this is a “J,” model, which would make it a later example, a little heavier than the “H,” models, and sporting a larger rear shock.
This example has the sort of honest patina we love to see in 30-40 year-old bikes—no trailer queen shine, but clear graphics and good color with all the original parts in the right place.
Seller is asking for $2200, and claims a clean title in their name, and CA green sticker for legal 2-stroke OHV use. Bike is located in Ramona, CA.
